New Mexico: The Land of Enchantment
Before Land of Enchantment became the state slogan, New Mexico went by the nickname The Sunshine State--based on the fact that every part of New Mexico receives at least 70 percent sunshine year-round.
In the state's rugged northern mountains, skiers and snowmobilers enjoy some of the best terrain and snow conditions in the country. In warmer seasons, modern throngs climb the mountains and comb the hills by foot, wheel and hoof, often using decades-old roads and trails blazed by miners and loggers. Hiking, climbing, camping, jeeping, horseback riding, mountain biking, ballooning and hang gliding are only some of the outdoor adventures available in New Mexico.
